Obama's speech to students...

I usually try to stay away from controversial topics on here... but I was so shocked that this was even an issue. When I was little I remember always looking up to the president... no matter the party affiliation. We were taught that it was a position to be respected. If you asked a classroom full of elementary students what they wanted to be when they grew up at least one or two would say that they wanted to be president. If the president, who should set a good example for our youth, wants to present a positive a message to America's students to work hard and do good in school, it should be a non-issue. It is completely unfathomable to me how people could misconstrue such a speech as "liberal propaganda" or "brainwashing."

On "the bump" message board someone started a thread about this and one person said,

"Government is overstepping the boundaries on this one and needs to stay out of education."

Seriously? SERIOUSLY?! I mean... seriously? Everything is not about a total government takeover, people. Past presidents have addressed students before without this kind of hype. It just boggles my mind. Alex says I'm just easily heated over political issues.

Don't even get me started.

Let me share this very interesting take on why so many might be up in arms over it: http://apsies.tumblr.com/post/182207996/religious-right-evangelicals-do-not-like-obama

These people are so up in arms right now over our administration, with flames of fire being ignited from those over at Fox and on talk radio. When you say that you always looked up to the president no matter party affiliation I think you nailed it. These people don't want their kids to admire Obama. Sad, but I think it's true.

It just bothers me that a few years ago if you disagreed with Bush then you were 'disrespecting the office of the president', yet today there seems to be very little respect for the office. It's all silly.

Good link.

You know what else kills me? I have to ask every patient that I register if they have a living will will and if they don't have one I'm required to offer them more information, no matter how old they are. It's always been that way. This question has set off more than a few patients off on "death panel" tangents and start railing against government being involved in health care... but THEY HAVE MEDICARE!

Haha, that kind of stuff just kills me. I saw a sign someone was carrying at a townhall meeting on tv the other day that said, 'get your government hands off my medicare'...it's like really? Seriously?
